ARMY FOOD SUPPLIES
PURCHASE ARRANGEMENTS [bv TELEGRAPH —press association] WELLINGTON. Wednesday "Foodstuffs for the armed forces and Government institutions arranged through the Internal Marketing Division are purchased by tender and/or contract on the best possible terms at lowest wholesale rates or better," says the Director of Internal Marketing in a letter to the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand in reply to an inquiry by the association as to whether the Internal Marketing Department was supplying the Army Department at wholesale prices or less. "Purchases and contracts," says the letter from the director, "are made under the authority of the Stores Control Board, and I can assure your association that every care is taken to ensure that supplies are purchased at the keenest prices. In view of certain press publicity which was given a similar question to that raised in your letter, I would appreciate your seeing that the suggestion that the Internal Marketing Division was paying retail prices for supplies to the armed forces is refuted."
