BOY'S FORTITUDE
EXPLOSION AT SCHOOL ["from ot'H own roriHFspoNnr.NT] •SYDNEY, .ran. tl Remarkable stoicism was shown by .Jack I! ussell. aged l-'t. after his left band bad been blown off in an explosion at a Sydney public school. I lis right, thumb was also blown ofl and he was seriously wounded iu the body and thighs. Doctors are fighting to save his life. With two other boys, Russell entered the science room of the school, which is closed for the holidays, and prepared a chemical mixture which he was carrying away when it exploded. Ihe explosion was heard hail a mile away. One of his companions was slightly injured and the other unhurt. Russell walked 20 yards before he collapsed. He asked his helpers if they thought be was going to die. and pleaded with them to tell his mother, who is a widow, lie showed Ihe same fortitude at. the hospital. When lie learned that his hand had been blown off h<? remarked; "This one is gone, but 1 have still a few fingers on the right,"
