GERMAN AND ITALIAN MUSIC
Sir, —'Tuion Jack" states that we are not at war with Italian and German mm powers and yet he would like t" scrap all their music. Evidently, though lie is not aware of it. he is very nmcli at war with these composers. Apart from the fact that all musiclovers know that Italy and Germany have always been tar ahead of Britain in music—both in composition and appreciation. surely music—classical music -—cannot belong to any. one nation. It is universal and belongs to all who appreciate it. It is quite true that Germany and Italy would not broadcast •"There - !! Always He An England" or "Wugs Over the Navy," but it is equally true that we have no intention of putting on any of their patriotic songs or national anthems. Musical. Sir. —I heg to endorse ''Union •Tack's" letter. At the Centennial Concert there was very little English music. Also from our radio stations a great percentage of the music is foreign, beautiful no doubt, but at the present time hardly appreciated by iisteners who have sous fighting to keep up our British traditions. _ . Is it because English. Scottish, Welsh and Irish compositions are beneath these talented musicians that we are inflicted with so much from foreign countries!-' Even when our radio stations put records of British singers they are so scratched as to be scarcely worth U>U»t„.
