SKID IN OIL
MOTOK-OYCLE FATALITY WIFE ON PILLION SEAT CONCLUSION OF INQUEST A verdict that the death of Mrs. Anne Theltna Denton, aged 27, was caused by injuries received when she was thrown from a motor-cycle ridden by her husband through the motor-cycle skidding in oil on the road, was returned by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, at the conclusion of the inquest yesterday. The accident happened on the morning of November 25 on the Otahuhu side of the Penrose traffic bridge over the Great South Road. Mr. Gatenby appeared for relatives and Mr. N. Wilson for insurance companies. The husband of deceased, Arthur Denton, said ho had been travelling between eight and 10 miles an hour justbefore the accident, with his wife on the pillion seat. The motor-cycle skidded for about 10 yards in a patch of oil, and his wife fell heavily on the concrete. Evidence was given by Carlton Burton that shortly before the accident he had driven a truck of fuel oil from Freeman's Bay to Penrose. On arrival at Penrose he found that a valve had been loosened and that he had lost 23 gallons of oil between Newmarket and Penrose. There was a trail of oil a foot wide all along the way.
