THAI ARMY'S ADVANCE RETREAT OF FRENCH HEAVY BOMBING BAIDS By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received January 10, 8.80 p.m.) BANGKOK, Jan. 10 The Thai army is advancing steadily into Cambodia. According to a Thai communique, the French have abandoned their defence lines and withdrawn into the interior. Siamese aircraft dropped bombs on Sisophon and another border town, killing two and wounding 11. The French Air Force carried out severe reprisals on various parts of Siamese territory. Supported by the air force, Thai troops have penetrated 20 miles into Indo-China territory and are advancing in tho direction of tho Angkor ruins, says a Shanghai message. Thailand forces, driving deep into Cambodia, forced a French retreat "far behind the old positions," which the Thai forces occupied. However, they have not yet reached Sisophon. It is said that 90 Thai aeroplanes heavily bombed Sisophon and five other towns, setting lire entirely to Sisophon. All tho Thai aeroplanes returned. It is also reported that artillery fire is raging throughout the Nongkai, Nakornphanom and Mukdaharn sectors, setting fire to an oil dump and exploding a munitions dump. Martial law has been proclaimed in 21 Thailand provinces, bordering 011 j French Indo-China, says a message from j Bangkok.
FRENCH ADMISSION BORDER TOWN CAPTURED (Received January 10, S.HO p.rn 1 HONGKONG, Jan. lu The Domei news agency's correspondent at Hanoi says the French authorities admit that superior Thai troops captured the border town of I'oipet on. January 7, the French retiring 30 miles toward Sisophon.
