STRUCK BY VEHICLE
ELDERLY MAN INJURED PURSUIT IN TAXICAB DETECTIVE MAKES TWO ARRESTS Two men were arrested last night in Carlton Gore Road following an accident- in Svmonds Street in which an elderly man was injured while getting on to or alighting from an outwardbound tram. The injured man was Mr. Leonard Nixon Bean, married, aged 70, retired farmer, of 67 Svmonds Street, who suffered concussion, abrasions and shock. When the accident occurred, at 7.40 o'clock, the vehicle involved failed to stop. Acting-Detective I. Jones, who was a passenger on the tram, caught a passing taxi and set off in pursuit. Two men were subsequently arrested. The injured man was attended by Dr. D. O'Brien and was taken to the Auckland Hospital. His condition last night was fairly serious.
