MR. JOHN BROPHY
Mr. John Brophy is back in the 3SBo's when the political world was ringing with the cry of "Home Rule," and the Green Glories were sent too late to relieve Gordon at Khartoum. F<>r "Green Ladies'' continues the story that began so well in "Green Glory." Lieutenant' Arnold Finch has married that fanatical Irish patriot, Kathleen, and the tale opens in St. George's, Hanover Square, with his friend, Charles Auberon's wedding to Arnold's sister, Jane. There are brilliantlycoloured accounts of the fighting in the Sudan, from which Arnold returns with the Y.G., leaving his friend dead in the desert. The rest of the scene is in London; Kathleen is obsessed with her political ideas, and Arnold decides to become a. painter. The delightful Christine Gill reappears, and, if there is to be another chapter, it is likely that Mr. Brophy will bring her back _ into Arnold's life. Otherwise, why kill off Kathleen so wilfully on the last page? "Green Ladies," by John Brophy. (Collins.)
