Chase in the Garden
JSEAR BOYS AND GIRLS,— OH, dear, we wore so hot and out cf breath the other evening, and all because Clara, the calf, broke through the fence and went trespassing ,n the orchard and garden! The first thing we knew about it was a ciip-cioppmg on the concrete path and when we looked out, there was Clara standing m the back doorway with her head on one side and her four lcjjjs wide apait. She renlly looked rather surprised at the strange way in which we mortals live! However, she didn't have long to study the house for we hustled her out and oft she went kicking her heels up behind her! But she would not go the wav we wanted her to go. So there we were chasing her all round the garden, endeavouring to guide her destructive hoofs away from the flower beds and the tennis court and her greedy mouth away from the tasty rose shoots and hydrangea bushes. And what a difficult. tasK it was. She would be walking sedately down through an archway when suddenly a thought would strike her and she'd wheel around, dodge past me and gallop back up to the stable. Then, to make matters worse. Grey Malcolm joined us. While his little friend, Sootie-cat, sal on a high post watching us with a broad grin on his whiskery face, Grey Malcolm pretended to be a cattle dog. Wherever we Wanted the calf to go, there was my puss, Grey Malcolm, sporting about in front of it. Yes, I'm sorry to say, Grey Malcolm was not very popular that evening, and when 1 caught him and told him to behave he very rudely smacked my face with a dusty paw and struggled away out of my arms. However, when everyone's patience was nearly exhausted Clara heard her sisters calling in the paddock below and without more ado the lively calf trotted quietly through the open r;ate to join the others. Perhaps if I had bellowed like a sister-calf in the beginning she might have followed me. Who can tell? I hope von are all having the joiliest of fun. these lovely sunny days, boys and girls. . Loads of happiness to you, lots of jnerry outings, and love from
