TASMAN CROSSING

FLIGHT BY AOTEAROA Fourteen passengers and a heavy mail consignment arrived at Auckland yesterday by the flying-boat Aotoaroa, which made a fair-weather crossing from Sydney under the command of Captain Oscar Garden. Among the passengers was Major-General Sir John Duigan, K.8.F., C.8., D.5.0., Chief of the General Staff, who headed the New Zealand delegation to the recent Eastern Group Conference at Delhi. Leaving Noumea yesterday morning, the Clipper arrived at. Canton Island at 6.55 p.m., Auckland time. A day's stay will be made at Canton Island before the flight to San Francisco, via Honolulu and Ijos Angeles, is continued. Unfavourable weather between San Francisco and Honolulu has delayed the departure of the south-bound Clipper, which was to have left San Francisco yesterday morning, and the departure time is indefinite in the meantime.
