ATTEMPTED THEFT
A sentence of one month's imprisonment was imposed cn Raymond James Woodward, a labourer, aged 41, when he appeared in the Police Court on Saturday morning before Mr. J. Morling, S.M., charged with attempting to steal a fowl valued at 7s, the property of Kwong Ming, a Chinese restaurant keeper, of Grey's Avenue. Accused, who pleaded not guilty, said he was not trying to catch a fowl, but a budgerigar, which ho claimed he saw fly into the fowl run. Senior-Sergeant Joyce, who prosecuted, said accused had a long list of previous convictions, and had only recently emerged from prison after serving a sentence for theft.
