CLIPPER ARRIVES

HEAD WINDS EN ROUTE PASSENGERS AND MAE RETURN FLIGHT TO-DAY After several delays due to unfavour- j able weather on the route, the American Clipper of Pan American Airways reached Auckland from Noumea late yesterday afternoon, carrying eight passengers and about 11001b. of mail. The machine will leave on the return journey at 9.30 o'clock this morning. Captain (1. J. Nixon, master of the American Clipper, reported that extremely strong head winds were encountered on the first stage of tho journey, between the mainland of the Lnited States and Honolulu. In anticipation of unfavourable conditions, however, the machine carried only two passengers and no freight, and after an uneventful but slow trip reached Honolulu in between 21 and 22 hours. Passengers who arrived from Noumea included Messrs. A. Bapadzi and C. Vautrin, general manager and mine manager respectively of Societo Le Nickel, of Noumea, who are on their way to Australia. Others on board were Mr. G. Step, of Sydney, after a business visit to New Caledonia, Mr. E. Jtabot, a Noumea merchant on a brief visit to New Zealand, Mr. W. J. MulJahey, airport manager for Pan American Airways at Auckland, who had been to Noumea on business, and Mr. G. i Atlicrton, chief operator of the comI panv's radio station at Now Caledonia. Ho was accompanied by Mrs. Atherton. When the Clipper leaves this morning jit will have 18 passengers, 7221b. of ■ freight and a quantity of mail. The 'passengers include: —-Captain L. TASMAN AIR SERVICE THE AOTEAROA DEPARTS TO-DAY 1 -v Having left Sydney at 6.< a.m., New Zealand time, the Tasinan Empire Airways' fiving-hoat Awarua, in the charge of Captain J. W. Burgess, arrived here yesterday at 3.20 p.m. It had on board the following 11 passengers: Major L. T. Wileock, Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Oggier and Miss A. Oggier, Mr. W. T. Hay- ■ lett. Mr. H. T. Bennett, Mr. S. C. Exley, Mrs. E. Hay, Mrs. Dow, Miss M. A. Kerr and Miss N. Oppy. The Awarua also brought 10541b. of mail, of which 9901b. is for New Zealand and the remainder for America, and 5891b. of freight, of which 4951b. is for New Zealand and the remainder for America. . Under the command of Captain O. Garden, the Tasman Empire Airways flying-boat Aotearoa will leave at six o'clock this morning for Sydney with five passengers, 15001b. of mail and 3001b. of freight. The Aotearoa will return from Sydney to-morrow, arriving at Auckland about two o'clock in the afternoon. Pas:3iigers for Sydney are as follows:—Mr. A. Rapadzi, Mr. George Step, Mr. C.
