SOME BIG DIVIDENDS NED WORTHY TAKES THE CUP TOTALISATOR UP £9176/10/Everv favourite was beaten at the 'opening of the Auckland Plotting ■ Club's Summer Meeting at Epsom yesterday and there were some big dividends. Five of the winners, Toceetie. .Ked Worthy, Petite Jewel. .Margin and j Swift Lady, and "two place-getters, ; Franco and Great Chum, paid double ! ■fifures. The best return wns made by ; Petite Jewel, who paid over two score Vnen he prevailed in the Akarana /Handicap, which was marred hy a series of mishaps. Another at long odds was winner of the Howe Memorial .Handicap, who returned almost a third of a century. South Island horses won five of the eipht T are<; those to succeed being Bomber. ■ Toceetie, Ned Worthy, Swift Lady and Worthv Need. The victory ot Ned Worthy hi the Auckland Jubilee Trotting Cup was thoroughly deserved, as he was in front practically throughout and stayed on splendidly at the finish, goinc five seconds better than ins handicap. The unlucky horse of the contest was the each-way favourite Molly Direct, who finished third after beiug pocketed and unabie to get a run in the straight. The course was in splendid order, ami an the winners went faster than handicapped to do. NEW ZEALAND TROTTERS GOOD FORM AT PERTH New Zealand-bred trotters were to the fore at the recent meeting at Gloucester Park, Perth, when the Trotters' Handicap resulted; Golden Eagle. 192 yds bhd, I; Bittersweet. 3 92yds bhd. 2; Great Way, 14 Iyds bhd, 3. Golden Eagle won in 3.5s for a mile and three-Quarters, a 2.1(> mile rate, and was at a good double-figure price. Bittersweet, who was favourite, trotted at a 2.10U rate. Golden Eagle, wiio was bred at Mangere by J. T. Paul, has won several handicaps in West Australia, and ia considered one of the best trotters there.
