OUTDOOR ATTRACTIONS

EVENTS FOR TO-DAY PEOPLE IN HOLIDAY MOOD With the reopening of stores and rej tail shops in the city and suburbs yes- | terdav, the Christinas holiday ended for ! manv people who do not have their : annual leave over this period. Large ! crowds at beaches and parks, however, | showed that those still on holiday were j taking full advantage of the fine | weather, while outdoor sporting attraci tions and picture theatres were also well patronised by those enjoying a rest from ; work. Most popular among sporting events ! was the opening day of the Auckland | Trotting Club's jubilee summer meeting at Alexandra Park, Epsom, which drew an attendance of 18,500. The meeting will be continued to-day, when interest will be centred on the Champion Handicap, which has a fine field of 1(3 horses engaged. Having lost the Brabin Cup to Wellington in a match which ended yesterday. the Auckland junior representative cricket team will play Canterbury at Eden Park to-day. The Auckland batsmen showed good form in their second innings against Wellington, and today's game should be keenly contested. At the Domain, the successful Wellington team will play the Auckland City and Suburban Association's representatives. and a further series of matches in connection with Country Week will take place. Inter-section play in the Auckland Bowling Centre's annual fours tourney will conclude to-dav, and the final stages will also be reached in the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's handicap tournament. At the North Shore links, play will continue over the weekend in a Christinas golf tourney.
