INSURANCE MANAGER

MR. G. NEVILL RETIRING OVER 40 YEARS IN AUCKLAND After long service with the British Traders' Insurance Company, Limited, of which he is branch manager at Auckland, Mr. Geoffrey Nov ill will retire on superannuation as from the end of this month. His successor will he .Mr. L. G. Wilson, branch manager at Diiiiedin, who will take up his duties in the Now Year. .Mr. Nevill arrived in New Zealand with his parents in the sailing ship Wairoa in 188-1, and came to Auckland in 1897. In the following year he joined the staff of L. I). Nathan and Company, Limited. Four years later hewas appointed chief clerk' for the \ ictoria Insurance Company. Mr. NcvilFs next change was when he was appointed branch manager and attorney for the Lnion Insurance Society of Canton, Limited, and when this company acquired and developed the British Traders' Insurance Company, Limited, he opened an Auckland branch office in 1917. He was appointed public officer for New Zealand for both companies in 1936. Mr. Nevill has been a committee member of the Auckland Fire Underwriters' Association for many years and was chairman for two terms. He has been a member of the committee of the Marine Association continuously since 191R, and is chairman at the present time. He also possesses a long experience of fire board service, being a member of the Te Awamutu and Taumaruiini boards for many years. In 1918 lie joined the Dargavillo Fire Board as representative of the Underwriters' Association and has remained a member ever since. For some years he filled the office of chairman. His service also extended to the Whangarci and Hikurangi boards. Mr. Nevill was also a member of the Tamaki Road Board.

In sport, he was a member of the Grafton Football Club, and played in the team which won the senior cup in 1901 with a record of 13 games played, 13 won, and 101 points scored, with only three points scored against the team. He was also a member of the Auckland Rowing Club, and was secretarv for a- term.
