PETROL AND PALACES

Sir, —"Fair Play" hits the nail on the head in emphasising the futility of Mr. Nash making the saving of dollar exchange the excuse for harsh petrol rationing while blindly ignoring the prodigal uso of that same exchange for costly public works. "Fair Pla.v" might have gone further in likening such "economy" to a housekeeper denying food and warmth to some of the family and showering luxuries on others. Our present Cabinet housekeepers are not only denying motorists the use of the roads (petrol restrictions), but are continuing to tax them, as a class, for that use. If motorists were as vociferous as the trades union a good deal less injustice would be done to them. Simple Simon.
