UNIVERSITY FINANCES

SMALL DEFICIT FOR YEAR A deficit of £351 in the finances of Auckland University College for the past year was reported by the president, Mr. W. H. Cocker, at a meeting of the college council yesterday. He said it was mainly <lne to a substantial decrease in fees through the departure of 59 students from the college, and the application by 141 other students for concessions in respect of military service overseas. "Actually the finances are much better than we anticipated," Mr. Cocker said. "As for next year, we cannot see what will happen. There may be a substantial drop in income, and our deficit may not be of advantage when we approach the Government for some financial plan. In the meantime we still 1 have a reasonable margin on which to operate."
