CAR CONVERSION

YOUTHS SENT TO BORSTAL MAGISTRATE'S SERIOUS VIEW [by telegraph—r it ess association] AYELLIXGTOX, Monday Again emphasising the gravity of the offence of car conversion, Mr. M. .1. C. StoUt, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day sentenced five youths who pleaded guilty to the offence to detention in .1 Borstal institute. The accused were Harris Swatton, aged 18, Frank James Kitchens, aged 18, each of whom was ordered to be detained in a Borstal for one year; Frank Ronaid Anzac Boss, aged 18, Dennis Grennell, aged 17, two years' detention, and Brian Desmond Larson, aged 18, three years' detention. The magistrate said the offence was getting out of hand. Any consideration the Court would like to give individuals must now be put aside. Owners of cars and the public must be protected, and deterrent sentences must be inflicted.
