CRICKET SEASON
BEPBESENTATIVE GAME AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY FIXTURE Several matters in connection "with the Wellington Cricket Association's programme of representative fixtures were more or less finalised last week. The game with Auckland, one of four days, will be held at the Basin Heserve, commencing on Christmas Day. Auckland's attitude in regard to the duration of the match is rather remarkable, states a writer in the Sports Post. The "Wellington Association suggested three days' play, largely to save expense, not only for itself, but also for Auckland. However, the northern centro insisted on four days, the Plunket Shield period of play, and Wellington has agreed. It would not surprise in the least if tho game was concluded in two and a-half or three days at the most. On the other hand, if one of the early days is wet then tho longer period may be most acceptable. Naturally, there will bo a cutting-down expenses attitude adopted by the associations this summer, and Jn this respect Wellington will endeavour to have the visiting players billeted. Accommodation is always a big item in the expenditure account. Tho "Wellington Association's management committee hopes that local followers of tho came wjll accommodate an Auckland player, or perhaps two. during the visitors' stay. The Auckland match t fortunately will bo p-'ayed before those cricketers called up in the second Territorial ballot proceed to camp. In the circumstances, the two representative o.cven-. should differ very little from those which met at the Basin Reserve in the first Plunket Shield match last summer. Because tha.t game, at one stage dist'liictl.v Interesting, drifted to a rather dull c! max owing to rain, the forthcoming g<ime slioulc, be more than usually entertaining. Wellington won on the first innings last summer: but iiad not the rain interfered it might conceivably have been beaten outright. Honours just prior to tho downpour lay with Auckland.
