LANDLORD AND TENANT
Sir. —Some landlords and landladies are busy earning their living in order to keep tenants in cheap flats. ] am getting less than depression rent for a flat because I took a tenant's word that at a given date she would pay more; the Fair Bents Act relieved her of this necessity. For another self-contained fiat a married couple answered an advertisement, "adults only." and offered l'7s 6d weekly, the price including electric light and hot water for baths. When they "arrived with a four-year-old boy the other tenants were irate. All that happened to me was that my paths were dug up, the concrete around a drain collapsed, and I was presented with a demand from the Fair Bents Department to restore depression rent, 15s 6d per week. The tenant very kindly paid me an extra Is, as he was not willing to keep the garden in order and do various odd jobs which tho 15s Cd per week tenant had done. • In spite of this I am fortunate compared with some owners. Landlady.
