CLIPPER ARRIVES

FAST FLIGHT MADE UNEVENTFUL JOURNEY EIGHT PASSENGERS CARRIED Exceptionally fast time on the last stage of the flight from San Francisco to Auckland was made yesterday by Pan American Airways' American Clipper, which flew tho 1122 miles from Noumea in 6 hours 17 minutes, instead of seven hours or more. The Clipper, commanded by Captain R. H. McGlohn, left Noumea at 7.59 o'clock yesterday morning, and alighted on the Waito mata Harbour at 2.16 in the afternoon, both New Zealand times. A strong following wind helped the Clipper on the way. Although the trip was not rough, the wind was of almost storm velocity at times, giving the Clipper an unusually high ground speed of over 170 miles an hour. Captain McGlohn reported an uneventful trip. Ho said that an unusual amount of rain was met on the journey, but tho trip was without incident. The Clipper brought eight passengers, as well as mail and freight. The passengers were: —Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Novomeysky, Mrs. I). G. Gordon, Messrs. W. G. Walklcy, J. F. Gates and T. S. Skillman, as well as two members of the company's staff, Mr. T. Satterlee, an auditor, and Mr. N. Hallinger, p. meteorologist, both of whom will leave by the Clipper when she begins her return journey to-morrow.

THE TASMAN SERVICE 10 PASSENGERS FOR SYDNEY The flying-boat Awarua, of Tasman Empire Airways, Limited, will leave for Sydney this morning with 10 passengers and about 6001b. of mail. Captain J. W. Burgess will be in command. The passengers, who include several who arrived from the United States by the American Clipper yesterday, are:— Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Novomeysky, Mr. and Mrs. C. Meaehen, Mrs. L. 6. Gordon, Messrs. J. F. Gates, H. E. Richards, S. S. Scott, T. S. Skillman and W. G. Harrison.
