Saturday Recollection was confidently supported to win the Spring Hurdles, but he was never going like a winner, and wa.s one of the rear division throughout. The race was won by Dividend after a good finish. Jewish Lad took up tho pacemaking, and along the back hp had a lead of six lengths from Donadeu, with another four lengths to Dividend, Dorado and Milford, who wero together. . Tho field commenced to close on Jewish Lad rounding tho home turn, and Dividend was with him at tho last fence, with Master Dingio, Dorado and Donadea in close attendance. Jewish Lad and Dividend drew out in the run homo, Dividorid getting in the deciding stride. Master Dingle finished on for third, well clear of Dorado, who was followed by Milford, Recollection and Donadea. Bello Cane was supported down to odds-on in tho Spring Plate and duly scored. The field got away in a bunch, and Great Night showed out from Schoolgirl, Gayest Son and Bello Cane, which was the order into the straight. Great Night soon surrendered, and a furlong from homo Bello Cane drew to the front for a.decisive win from Gayest Son, who outstayed Schoolgirl. Blue Coat led into the straight from Synthetic, All Night, Blandisher and Nightglass, who were bunched a furlong from home. At the end of two furlongs Sly Fox had charge from Swordstick, Second Innings, The Buzzer, Wardress, Te Kawiti, Capricious, Settlement and The Raker, with Pearl of Asia, Taurangi and Royal Chief in the roar. With halt a mile to go Wardress .was in front, and a Utile further 011 was joined by Capricious. the pair hnving a *-! car lead entering tho straight from The Buzzer, Sly Fox, Te Kawiti and Screnata, with Little Robin, Taurangi and Royal Chief closing up. Screnata drew past the two leaders a furlong from home, and then Taurangi shot through on Ihe fence, while Little Robin and .Royal Chief also challenged. In a most spectacular finish Screnata hung on to win by a neck from Taurangi. Little Robin finished fast lo be a close third, a length in front of Capricious, who s was half a head in front of Royal Chief. Then followed Wardress, Swordstick, Settlement, Kilometre and The Baker, Auto Sweop bringing up tho rear. Little Robin, who weighed out three-quarters of a pound overweight, weighed in l/«lb under and was disqualified, third being awnrded to Capri-' ciotis. Favourites Unplaced Investors went astray in the AVelcome Stakes, when the favourites Par Avion and Foreign Coin were unplaced, victory going lo the third, fancy Pay Roll, who carried her supporters through in grand style. She was first on to tho course, proper from Silver Lily, Flying Spray, Salutation, Monetary and Par Avion, and was never in danger in the run home, winning with a lot in hand. In an exciting tussle for second, the judge was unable to separate Salutation and Silver * Lily Foroign Coin was two lengths away fourth, a head in front of Flying Spray, with Corn Prince and Monetary close up. Foreign Coin met trouble at the start and was slow away. Alias. Stabilise and Twenty Grand were slow to move in tho Apprentices' Handicap, and when the field had settled down Cymric went to the front from Rue. Tissue, Sir Amyas and Stylist. Cymric si ill held a clear lead turning for home from Sir Amyns, with Ferriby making a fast, run in front of Rue anil Stylist. These were fairly well bunched a furlong from the post, when Ferriby showed out from Rue. After a brief struggle, Ferriby went 011 for a. comfortable win from Rue, who similarly beat Sir Amyas. Cymric was a head away fourth, followed by Stabilise and Oragon. Ferriby was seen at his best, and went well for T. Biggs, who is apprenticed to H. B. Lorigan. Sir Beau Runs Second Sir Beau made a bold attempt to justify his favouritism for tho Stewards' Handicap, but had no chance of overhauling Enrich, who had a decisive win. Don't Forget was the first to show out, but Density soon ran past him. Density led 011 to the course proper from Don't Forget, Enrich. Doria, Sir Beau, Not Out and St. Cloud, who,-were fairly welt bunched. Enrich reached the front a furlong from home and. although strongly challenged by Sir Bean, had two lengths to spare at the post. Spanish Lad came with a late run for third, h-ilf a length in front of Not Out, with Don't' Forget, Doria and Gold. Flight next. Enrich, from No. 2 at. the barrier, had the 1 ace won a long way from home, and ran the distance in a fifth of a second outside the race record Sir Beau started from wide out and had much extra ground to cover. In any case, lie would not have beaten Enrich on the (Iny. Another strong favourite was beaten when Bean Leon failed to finish closer than third in the Ricearton Handicap.
