EARTHQUAKE SHOCK
EXPERIENCE AT OPOTIKI HEAVIEST FOR A LONG TIME [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] OPOTIKI, Monday A heavy earthquake shock was felt at Opotiki at 1.25 o'clock this afternoon. It was the heaviest felt here for a long time and many people ran outside. Buildings swayed but no damage has been reported.
HAWKE'S BAY DISTRICT TWO DISTINCT TREMORS [by TELEGRAPH OWN correspondent] HASTINGS, Monday A sharp earth tremor followed .by a second shock less than a minute later occurred in Hastings and Napier at about 1.30 p.m. to-day. The second shock was longer and of a swaying nature. Neither was severe enough to cause damage. It is the first time for some months that an, earthquake has been experienced in Hawke s Bay.
WELLINGTON AFFECTED RECORD AT THE OBSERVATORY [by telegraph OWN correspondent] "WELLINGTON, Monday An earthquake was felt in Wellington at 1.30 p.m. to-day. At the Dominion Observatory the seismological instruments recorded a 40 second interval between two shocks which were part of the same earthquake. The origin was probably deep-seated and about 2-10 miles distant from Wellington.
