CHURCH HISTORY
80TH ANNIVERSARY ONEHUNGA PRESBYTERIANS The Onehunga Presbyterian Church commemorated its 80th anniversary yesterday at services at which the preachers were the Rev. JR. E. Evans and the Rev. AY. J. Pellow. The history of Presbyterianism in Onehunga extends beyond the establishment of a properly constituted congregation in 1860 under the ministry of the Rev. George Brown; who had then recently arrived from Aberdeen. The first services held in Onehunga date back to 1851 and were conducted by the Rev. John lnglis, subsequently a pioneer missionary in the New Hebrides. Other services were held later ,by the Rev. Dr. Bruce, of St. Andrew's, then the only Presbyterian church in the Auckland Province. On behalf of the Auckland Presbytery, Dr. Bruce bought in 1854 jthe land on which the present church buildings stand.
