BEAULIVBE SENSATION PANDECT WINS SLOW DERBY TRACK RECORD BY BEAU VITE (Received October 6, 3.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. (5 Xew Zealand horses wen; well in the picture at the opening of the Australian •Jockey Club's Spring Meeting at Randwick yesterday, High Caste winning the Kpsom Handicap and Beau Vite the Colin Stephen Stakes, in which he ran a track record of 2.29 for a mile and a-lialf. The weather was ideal and the course was in excellent order if a little easy. The attendance was about 65.000. An unprecedented incident happened in the Epsom Handicap, when Benulivre, who whs .one of the most fancied horses for years, was pulled up when in a winning position a furlong from home. The jockey, D. Munro, thought Benulivre had broken down, and dismounted at the post. However, Beaulivre walked soundly to the enclosure and looked quite well. He was later examined by a veterinary, who reported; "Beaulivre, when cooled off, disclosed no injury or abnormality." The hiipre circle of admirers of Beaulivre was chagrined by the untoward happening. The winner, High Casto. ran on strongly to a well-deserved victory. Three Victorian colts. Pandect, Lucrative and Sun Valley, filled the places in the Australian Derby. Nightbeam was unruly at the post, twisting the plate on bis near forefoot, and, having to he taken back to the saddling paddock, where the plate was adjusted, causing a delay of 18 minutes. Nightbeam ran a good race, but faded in the straight, finishing fourth. The time, '.2.37, was extremely glow, Results:—

WIN FOR TRUE FLIGHT GOOD CAULFIELD CUP TRIAL (Received October <>, 4.30 p.m) MELBOURNE, October 6 Tn winning the Stand Handicap at Flemington yesterday True. Flight gave an excellent Caulfield Cup trial. Historian in running second, was not disgraced. i»I«ul* stone, who finished third, showed his bos form this season. Wilson is likely to benefit from the race. OUTSIDERS PREVAIL METHVEN CUP CONTEST [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] METHVEN, Saturday Two outsiders in Regal and Zincali fought oui the finish in the Methven Cup, the former paving a win dividend of over twothirds of a century, while Zincali's place price was almost a quarter of a century. Regal was responsible for an exceptionally fine effort, being a long way back in the first mile and forced to cover a deal ol extra ground in the concluding stages. Happy Locanda ran an honest race into third place, while Old Faithful was a fair fourth. Willowbank broke up at the start, and Stormtosl tired badly after making a smart run round His field half a mile from the finish. IMPORTED HORSES AT HOME IN NEW QUARTERS While nominally Coronach will remain the property of Mrs. Macdonald Buchanan, it is .onsidercd certain that the Derby winner will remain in New Zealand to the end of his .lays. Mr. J. G. Alexander, who has Coronacn .it his Cranleigh Stud, Maxwell, stntes that, he is a perfectly-mannered horse, nnd tlrnt he has settled down well. The two-year-old fillies who accompanied Coronach from England are both described as fine types. One is a half-sister to Beau Pere and Gay Shield, being by Nothing Venture from China, and the other by Obliterate from Cineraria, a daughter of Cinna. The recent arrival, Battlesong, has settled down in his new home, Gladstone Park Stud. Orari. He had already been sold for export to Europe, and it was only after the outbreak of war that he was secured for Mr. G. A. Kain.
