COUNTY CLERKS
ELECTION OF OFFICERS ( The annual meeting of the Auckland district branch of the New Zealand Institute of County Clerks was held at the week-end, the president, Mr. G. Brownleo-Smith, presiding over a large attendance. Mr. F. H. Hudson, president of the Dominion Institute, who addressed the meeting, referred to the many new and varied obligations imposed 011 local authorities by the Government, especially as the result of war conditions. As executive officials ; he said, county clerks wore in a position to help couiitv councils considerably in these new phases of local government. Tlie following officers were elected: President, Mr. J. N. O'Brien; vicepresident, Mr. S. W. Brakenrigg; secretary, Mr. E. Ashcroft; executive com'mittee, Messrs. J. A. Beck, A. P. Day, S. .J. Fortoscuo, A. A. Jenkinson.
