BOWLING

OPENING AT ST. HELIERS A departure from the usual proceedings was observed on Saturday afternoon when the St. Heliers Bowling Club's season was commenced, the ceremony being opened with the singing of the National Anthem and "'i here'll Always-be an England." Prolonged appplaikse greeted the announcement niado by .Mr. A. \V. Scotting. president of the club, who in welcoming the visitors, stated that the profits from all future tournaments worn.l be devoted to patriotic purposes. Mr. Scotting said the club was privileged to have at its opening the Mayor of Auckland, Sir Ernest Davis, and eight members of IHo Auckland Bowling Centre's executive. Reference was also made by the president to tho growth of the club, the membership during the last six years having increased from to the club for its decision to assist patriotic purposes were extended by Mr. W. J. Truscott, a representative or the New Zealand Bowling L-ouncil, and bv Mr. \V. E. Inder, president of the Auckland Centre. Mr. Truscott stated that the New Zealand Council had decided to carry on with the national championships to be lield In January at Christchurch. Members of the Auckland Centre's executive present besides Mr. Inder were Messrs. S. Cc-ldicutt, L. C. IJ. Dawson. E. Mathieson. ft. H. Tongue, I. Sutherland and A. E. Ford.

CLUB COMPETITIONS Club bowling competitions played at the various greens on Saturday resulted as follows : Auckland. —The annual reunion of former Ot-ago and Southland players took place when matches wore played with the Auckland Club.
