GIRL'S "INSPECTION TOUR"
Her stories of her adventures, described by the police as "highly coloured," roused suspicion and led to tbe arrest of Gertrude Anne Tarbotton, aged 20, a telephonist, stated to be a native of Hull. She appeared at Westminster, London, charged "with doing v an act calculated to suggest that she was in the service of the Government, ** incurring a debt of £9 2s 9d by fraud at an hotel and obtaining uniform, etc., by false pretences. Tarbotton pleaded guilty and was placed on probation for two years. It was stated that the girl_ joined the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service at York in January, and later overstayed sick leavo and was discharged. From March 23 to the day of her arrest she masqueraded as an officer, visiting A.T.S. depots and saying she had been instructed to inspect the woman 1 ® billets.
