SCHOOL FOR THIEVES

HOW "FEES" WERE PAID

. Franjo Lukas, a Yugoslav, was lately sentenced to a long term of imprisonment at Belgrade for running a college for thieves. Under the guise of a circus, Lukas, a gipsy, and several associates, ran a show which included several youngsters. They all did nil net. but when the show' was not on these children were trained in tho art of thieving. Picking pockets was one of the main features.

Outside the caravan a wooden dummy was placed. To this dummy small hells wore attached. Then tho children had to extract articles from the pockets of the dummy without making the bells tinkle. When ,they had received sufficient training, they were sent to the nearest town to "try their hand." Tho college "professor," after training his pupils, charged them as "fees" for their tuition all their "takings" for the first two months. One of Lulcas' pupils, a boy of eight, was caught by the police picking pockets in Belgrade.
