AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION COMPETITIONS TO CONTINUE The general opinion of delegates attending the annual meeting of the Auckland Cricket Association lust evening was that till! competitions should lie carried on during the coming season as far as possible. The chairman, Mr. W. 1?. As far as representative matches were concerned, it was hoped that liome-nnd-homc matches with Wellington for the Centennial Cup would be played. Mr. Fee appealed to clubs to keep up the high standard of play which had been apparent, lust, season. The asset which the association had in Eden Park should not be allowed to sutler, said Mr. Fee, in advocating a stringent policy of expenditure, jt was the duty of the association to provide for a scheme of reinstatement after the war, when both chilis and returning players would need assistance. A feature of Hie meeting was the presentation to the association of a cup won outright in 1S!)I by the Cordon club's junior team. In niiikintr the presentation. Mr. (J. Kiss ling stated that it was the wish of the surviving members of the team that Ihe cup should be made use of by Ihe association. Ite also presented a framed photograph of the senior and junior teams of the Cordon club in the I.WKMH season. Mr. Fee assured Ihe donor that the picture would lie hung in the members' stand at Eden Park, while the cup would bo allotted to one of the association's competitions. The annual report and balance-sheet, which were reviewed in Ihe IlKlUU) last Wednesday, were adopted. The advisability of suspending championship competitions for the duration of the war was suggested by Messrs. 11. K. Wnrncford and E. R. Sutherland. The contention of the speakers was that, with some teams depleted and others at nearly full strength, it would not be in the interests of the game for Ihe trophies to be competed for. Opposition to the proposal was voiced by Messrs. I!. 0. Lusk. A. J. Postles and 1). C. CleverIcy, wl'.n felt that, the suspension of the competitions proper would lessen interest in the game.
