BUSH FATALITY
'COMMENT BY CORONER [BY JEI.EGRAPn—OWN CORRESPONDENT] ROTORUA, Tuesday A verdict that death was probably " u e to a tree falling on him in the course of his employment "was returned »>' the coroner, Mr. V. 7 . L. liichards, an inquest to-day into the death of oapihana Wera Hemopo in the State Plantations at Whakarewarewa on September 17.
Evidence was given by a bushman, "ichard Johnstone, who said he was scarfing a tree about 80ft. high and 9in. lri diameter. He looked to see if all clear, and then proceeded to fell the tree. It was not' customary to givo a .warning signal if no one was in tho r| cinitv. A tractor driver, C. Transon, did not witness the accident, but was in the vicinity, also gave evidence of the usual procedure. , The coroner stated that the stump "J 'which the deceased was found appealed to be in sight of the bushman, ®nd he was of the opinion that the funding of a warning- signal would contribute to safety in. the plantation.
