POWER LINE EXTENSION
PERMISSION WITHHELD [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Tuesday Ttye Franklin Power Board was advised to-day that tho Electricity Controller's permission for the extension to Waikaretu of the board's power lines at an estimated cost of £I9OO would not bo given at present, although the board had the materials on hand and the necessary finance. One reason mentioned was that the materials might be more urgently required later for the maintenance of existing lines. The board asked the chairman, Mr. J. Dean, to stress on the authorities when he visits Wellington shortly the value of the extension for increasing production. It was agreed in any case to comply with an official suggestion to renew the application for permission in three months' time.
