TEMPERANCE UNION
OPENING OF CONVENTION DISTRICT DELEGATES WELCOMED The annual Auckland District Convention of the Women's Christian Temperance Union opened at the Pitt Street Methodist Hall last night, when a reception to the delegates was hold. Those present included representatives of temperance organisations .in the city. The president, Sirs. H. Kasper, who returned yesterday from a visit to Sydney, was welcomed by Sliss L. SI. Read. Greetings from the temperance organisations were received and were replied to on behalf af the executive committee by Sirs., Kasper. A programme of musical items included songs by Sirs. J. Patterson, Sirs. J. Walsh, Sliss B. Rosenfeldt and Sir. L. Jenkins. A play by the Grev Lynn Loyal Temperance Legion children and items by a boys' choir completed the programme, after which supper was served.
YOUNG PEOPLE'S BRANCH ELECTION OF OFFICERS The seventh annual convention of the Young People's Christian Temperance Union was held in the Newton East Mission Hall. Tho district president, Sir. J. Smith, presided. A report of the year's work was read by the secretary, Sliss E. Hullah. In his address the president stressed the conference theme "arise and build." A scientific temperance address was given by Sliss Joyce Webber. The following officers were elected: — President, Sir. J. Smith; Y superintendent, Sliss E. Appleby; vicepresident, Sir. Laurie Thomas; corresponding secretary, Sir. Keith Bartlett; recording secretary, Sliss Joyce Webber; treasurer, Sir. A. Turley. A silver vase, donated by Sirs. Hugh Knsper, and competed for by tho Auckland branches, was won by Auckland Central for the highest record of service. Items wore given by Sliss J. Webber, • Sliss E. Slatheson and Sliss E. Appleby.
