TRADE WITH NOUMEA
DEVELOPMENT SCHEME In view of statements made at a meeting of the council of the Aiickland Chamber of Commerce that, because of a lack of shipping facilities, nothing could be done to develop trade with Noumea, now under the Free French flag, it is pointed out that such remarks were not quite correct. The South Pacific Line of the Royal Packet Navigation Company, a Dutch concern, maintains a two-monthly service -from Noumea to Auckland. In addition, the Yamasliita Kisen Kaisha, a Japanese line, has a three-monthly service, from Auckland to Noumea. The Chamber of Commerce has been advised of a scheme whereby the shipping companies will carry samples free, subject to arrangements with the French Consul, while, ! if desired, contact will be arranged with exporters and importers in Noumea likely to be interested in New Zealand trade.
