Music Notes
The local composer, John Tait, will be represented at the Lyric Harmonists' concert in the concert chamber on .Thursday by a number of items. One will be the first performance of a sonata for violin and piano. Two musical versets for a reader, with musical illustrations also will be given. The assisting artists aro to ho Winifred Hayes, John Tait, James Leighton and J. J. Lewis. Strauss' "Tales From the- Vienna Woods is one ot the items to he presented by the Auckland Juvenile and Ladies' Choir in the Lewis Kadv Hall on October 23. Another ' item of interest should be the chorus "Cast Thy Burden Upon the Lord," from Mendelssohn's oratorio "Elijah." Two songs by Sir Edward Elgar and "Magic Melody," by Paderewski,- also will be given. Mrs. Reg. Reed and Miss Loma Reed will assist with piano duos, and Miss' Ida Holmes will conduct the choral items. Music circles here will have noted with regret the death in London of Miss Reba Cohen, who at one time was a most active worker among them. Besides being the founder of the Albion Ladies' Musical Society, Miss Cohen was the possessor of a brilliant soprano voice. She was born in Melbourne and has relatives in New Zealand. They are Messrs. N. Cohen, Auckland. L. Cohen. Dunedin. Mesdames I). Goldsmith and S. Hart, Wellington and Miss Ray Cohen. Others are Mr. A. Cohen, Melbourne and Mrs. B. Bishop, Hull..
