Bon Haven went solidly in 5.10, but Kewpie's Kiug, trotting the last half in 1.12 3-5, outstayed him. Northern Smile (J. Little) left the milo and a-quarter three seconds before Bingun's Best (J. Garnett) and fivo beforo Tommy McLlwyn (R. Gosney), but sho had little to spare from him at the finish in 3.14. Northern Smile, who was unhopplod, has done well in her preparation. Bingen's Best finished on solidly in 3.11 2-5, and Tommy McElwyn, who has made rapid progress iu tho last few weeks, ran Dick Redmond (A. T. Nowdick), after going to tho mile in 2.43, took 4.3 to complete a milo and a-half. Ho became unbalanced when pressed and did not appear to appreciate tho holding ground. « Bedford's Sound Task Taking Its for the first two furlongs, Bedford (M. Smith) improved to complete a mile and a-half in 3.42, coming home the last halfmile well to run 1.10 3-5. Bedford has not been a success at two milos, but in his present condition may stay on better. . . Magic Task (K. Cook), Port Chalmers (T. Roe) and Peter Harvester (C. M. Morrison) wont from tho mile and a-half at intervals of one second, Peter Harvester beating them decisively in 3.57. He was with the novices for a mile, but came away to trot the next half in 1.14. Port Chalmers again went solidly with the use of a half-hopple. Our War Improving Assisted by Eighteen Carat (M. Smith) over the last 11 furlongs, Our War (K. Bell) worked a mile and a-half in 3.40, the best of the morning at the distance. He ran the last mile and a-quarter in 3.11 and tho final halfmile in 1.11. Our War is improving and may soon regain form. Eighteen Carat also worked Bronze Queen (W. Clifton) led Clay Pot (J. Paton) over a mile and a-quarter in 3.16, the last half being run easily in 1.13. Bronze Queen, who is in good heart, was keen to go faster. Clay Pot was free-legged and was not doing her best. She has done well in her preparation. Gold Kip (K. Bell) and William (I. R. Morrison) were associated over a mile and a-half in 4.7, the last-named, who trotted tho last four furlongs in 1.15. being more solid than his companion. William only requires to make a good beginning to bavo a chance 111 the Introductory Handicap Hori Bingen (R. Gosney) conceded Antarctic Star (J. Little), six seconds and a beating over a mile and a-half in 3.42 3-5. Making
