BEGINNING THE DAY
(Supplied by the Council of Christian Congregations.) Text.—Who is my mother P and who are my brethren? . . Whosoever shall do the will of my Father ... he is my brother and sister and mother, nt. Matthew, 12, 48:50. Verse.— Lord Christ, wo here renew to Thee Our solemn pledge of loyalty; 'J'o servo and work, to watch and pray Until tho shadows flee away; Thon on tho trunnuil sunlit shore Wo meet again and part no more. Prayer.—O my God make me happy this day in Thy service. Keep my conscience void of offence. Let me do nothing, say nothing;, desire nothing which is contrary to Thy will. Give me a thankful spirit. Quicken, I entreat Thee, my sluggish heart to praise Thee now; and grant that I may one day join the holy choir and praise Thee more perfect!}' with angels and archangels in Thy courts above. Amen. — Ashton Oxenden (1809-1892).
