OIL SHALE DEPOSITS

INVESTIGATION IN NORTH [from OUll own conhkspondent] WHANG AIIKI, Thursday An investigation of the oil shale deposits near Lake Ornapere, Kaikohe, is to be undertaken by officers of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. Oil shale secured from near the outlet of Lake Omapere has already been used for fuel. A meeting of tiie "Vybangarei Commercial Vehicle Owners' Association considered that further development should be undertaken. The Director of the Geological Survey Office, Mr. J. Henderson, has now advised that an investigation is to be undertaken. He stated that the oil shale deposits known to exist in North* land were believed, to be too small for commercial exploitation.
