THE LEAGUE CODE

AUCKLAND V. MAORIS RETURN MATCH TO-MORROW: TWO POWERFUL TEAMS The Maori representative team 'will have an opportunity to secure revenge for its defeat earlier in the season, when it will play ji return match against Auckland at Carlaw Park to-mor-row. Although the ground is likely to bo soft, indications are that a brilliant exhibition of the League code will be witnessed. Auckland won by only three points in the first game, and many enthusiasts considered that the Maoris were unlucky to lose. The teams appear evenly matched, both in the backs and the " forwards, and a stirring struggle should result, with possession of the ball from the scrum proving of paramount importance. The Auckland side shows several changes from that which was successful on the first occasion. V. Scott has again been given the fullback position, but two alterations have been made in the threeciuarter line. In place of Mackenzie and Richards, A. Graham and J. Smith, the versatile North Shore player, have been included. The five-eighths, Banhani and Kay, and the halfback, C. Williams, are the same, but newcomers in the forwards are E. Scott, J. Gunning, H. Flanagan and Shadbolt. The pack should prove virile in the tight and fast and sure in the loose, while Flanagan should at least get his share of tho ball. The back line possesses great strength, and should fully match the Maori rearguard for skill and opportunism. The Aucklanders will have a hard task in getting past the Maori fullback, Martin, whose splendid anticipation and neat handling make him a force both on defence and attack. Chaso, Hcmi and Butler will comprise the threeauartor line, which should not go short of opportunities with such constructive inside men as Donaldson, Solomon and Mahima. The pack is a formidable one, in which leading performers should be Jlirinul, H. Mataira and McLeod. A junior representative curtain-raiser between Town and Suburban will be played, starting at 1.30 o'clock. Following are the teams for the principal attraction: — „ „ ~ Auckland. —Fullback, V.
