ROTORUA TOURNAMENT HEAVY RAIN EXPERIENCED SEMI-FINAL STAGE . REACHED [by »telegraph OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Thursday 111 spite of heavy rain, the majority of matches iri the second match-play rounds of competitions in tho Rotorua Golf Club's annual veterans' tournament were decided to-day, several being won by default. In the flight sections there were few actual scores kept, owing to tho difficulty in filling in cards, and no sensational scores were returned. Two Rotorua players entered tho semifinals of the principal event, these boing F. A. H. Gibbs and C. H. C. Worthington. The latter, in particular, from the scores he returned in the qualifying rounds and the decisive manner in which he has won in match play, appoars to havo a good chance of winning the Veterans' Cup. Other semifinalists' are G. H. Scott (Paekakariki) and E. M. Hutchinson (Napier), both of whom havo beaten good men to reach this stage. Scott was last year's runner-up to C. E. Pulley, of Karori, in this event, and, if his form continues, ho should take the trophy. G. Marriott, of Hamilton, offered strong opposition to Scott to-day, the game going to the 20th. Hutchinson eliminated J. Banks, of Rotorua, at the 20th, in the Arikikapakapa Cup contest. .A. Downer (Rotorua) continued his winning way by putting out A. L. Humphries, 3 and 2, but C. E. Kusabs, after a fine round tho day bofore, crashed to G. J. Temploton, of Wanganui, 2 down. Two Auckland men, F. J. Hintz and A. I. Johns, will be the other semi-finalists. The Consolation Cup will be contested by C. M. Russell, A. F. Cole, H. Rowland and H. Parkin. G. H. Scott, besides being well in the running for tho Voterans' Cup, won the Diehards' Cup, for competition among players over 65 and under 100 yenrs of age.
