MR. J. HASLAM'S DEATH
SERVICE ON MILK COUNCIL The death occurred yesterday of Mr. James Haslam, who was one of the original members of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council. Mr. Haslam was born in Bolton, Lancashire, 66 years ago, and became a cotton spinner there. Coming to New Zealand in 1908 with his wife and family, he went into business as a milk vendor at Remuera and had continued in it since.
For many years he was president of the Auckland Milk Vendors' Association, and when the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council was formed eight years ago he was elected as one of the representatives of the vendors. He held his seat on the council until his death. Mr. Haslam was a keen bowler, and was a foundation member of the Rawhiti Bowling Club. He was also a Rechabite. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons, one of whom, Mr. R. Haslam, is an Auckland representative footballer.
