RINGING OF CHURCH BELL

LONDON. July 20

The Rev. R. G. C. Graham, rector of Old Bolingbroke, near Spilsbury, Lincolnshire, was sentenced to imprisonment ior a month for contrafoing a defence regulation, which cosS trols noise. Ho had sounded the church bell otherwise than for an authorised purpose. Last month it was ordered that church bells should be rung only as a warning of the presence of parachute invaders. The chairman of the magistrates said he believed Mr. Graham had received notice from his bishop, forbidding the bell-ringing, which the Brench considered to have been intentional and deliberate.
