VICTORIA LEAGUE

ENJOYABLE AT HOME ORGANISATION'S WAR WORK SUCCESS OF RED CROSS SHOP Members of the Victoria League and their friends attended an enjoyable At Home in the league rooms last night. They were received by the president, .Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, assisted by Mrs. C. R. Keeble and Mrs. C. Kissling, of the executive. A brief outline of the league's war activities was given by Mrs. Macfarlane, who stated that the Red Cross shop takings since March were £4G4. Included in this sum was £177 10s for the queen of the air in the recent queen carnival, while the ever-ready committee had raised £4O for the same purpose. Much knitting for men in the forces had been done by members, and about 400 garments had so far been despatched. Wool had been given for this purpose by the Red Cross Society, the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Committee and the Navy League, while the league itself also had a wool fund. Mrs. Macfarlane referred to the hostels opened by the Victoria League in London and Edinburgh for overseas noldiers, and said the Young Contingent of the Auckland branch was helping in this work. She concluded with an appeal for support of the Victoria League's funds, mentioning that there had been no Empire Ball, spring fair or street collection held this year. A program me arranged by Miss El a Hutchison comprised songs by Miss Betty Brown. 3liss Thersa Flynn and Mr. C. Kissling; pianoforte solos by Mrs. Reginald Reed; pianoforte duets bv Mrs. Reed and Miss Loma Reed, and sketches by Mrs. J. Allan and Mr. G.
