SALEYARDS ACCESS
COMPLAINTS BY FARMERS Much adverse comment on the state of the road giving access to the Westfield saleyards was expressed yesterday by stock agents and farmers attending the special pig sale at the yards. The road, which is within the borough of Otahuhu, carries a large volume of traffic, as it leads to the loading ramps, the auctioneering offices and the refreshment rooms. The overnight rains had made the road impassable for pedestrians ai some parts, and the waterlogged potholes and ruts made negotiation by vehicles a hazardous proceeding. Stock agents and dealers regularly attending the sales said harm was caused to stock, which were rocked and shaken from their feet when conveyed in large lorries over the ruts and holes. Hopes were expressed that the local authority would be induced to improve the roadway.
