ANNUAL CONCERT SUCCESS

EPSOM GIRLS' GRAMMAR The annual concert of the Epsom Girls' Grammar School was presented last night in the Auckland Training College hall, proceeds going to the school swimming bath fund and the school war effort. The main item on a varied and entertaining programme was an adaptation of J. M. Barrie's play, " Alice-si t-by-the-fi re." The title role in this whimsical comedy was played by Jean Collins, other characters being portrayed by Cynthia Solon, Lindsay Howell, Valerie Craig, Barbara Urquhart, Kathleen Parkinson, Glen Nicholson, Joan Ritchie and Ailsa White. A well-received presentation on the musical side of the programme was Romberg's "Toy Symphony," played by the school orchestra. The choir sang Handel's "Where'er You Walk," Wilbye's madrigal "Seek Sweet Content" and Mendelsshon's "'Hie Primrose" and "I Waited for the Lord." A feature of the first portion of the programme was the dance performed by P. Alcock, V. Craig, I. Henrikson, P. Protheroe, R. Pno and J. White. Soveral drill demonstrations and the singing of Parry's "Jerusalem" and "There'll Always Be an England" completed the programme.
