RETURNED SOLDIERS

HIGHER PENSIONS WANTED CONSCRIPTION APPEALS Information that an increase in the pensions for wives and dependants of soldiers was being sought by the executive was given last night at the quarterly meeting of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association by the president, Mr. J. W. Kendall. He said that in view of regular increases in the cost of living and in wages, soldiers' wives and dependants should be given equal consideration. The first step asking for a better pension had been taken by writing to the Dominion council of the association. Strong support for this action was expressed by the meeting. The view that the National Service Emergency Regulations should contain no provision for appeals from the results of conscription ballots was expressed by the executive committee in a report to members.. The report stated that the committee believed there should be no appeal tribunals because no niau was irreplaceable.
