THE YORKSHIRE SPIRIT
A story conies from a part of tho Yorkshire coast which has been visited by air raiders. Those unwelcome visitors have not adversely affected the courage of ono lady over 70. She has two married sons on service, and an only daughter who lives in New Zealand. A visitor recently found her weeding in her garden, which is now turned into a vegetable plot. A bulky letter poked out of her garden apron. "It's a nice letter from Mary," she said. "She wants me to go to New Zealand for the duration and has to pay my passage." "Splendid. When do you go!-"' She looked at her questioner with, scorn. "Who said I was going? Who wants to be safe? As long as I can tie a bandage, make a bed, or mind a bairn, I ara staying in Yorkshire."
