LARGE DIVIDENDS

SACCONE AND HASTEN BLACK MAJESTY -SUCCEEDS FINAL EVENT TO SHEENY [BY TELEGRAPH FROM. ARCHER^ WELLINGTON, Saturday Favourites fared badly again on the third day of tho Wellington .Racing Club s Winter Meeting at Trentham today, Screen Star being the only 0110 to succeed. Good dividends were a feature, Saccone and Hasten both paying over a score. The outsider of the field, Blue Tiger, won the July Steeplechase, and Jewelled Girdle, winner of the Winter Hurdles, was only moderately supported. The cotirso was very slushy after rain overnight and in the morning, yet there was some excellent racing. Benefited by his racing earlier at the meeting, Saccone scored at long odds in the Talavera Hurdles for which Mataroa and Midland were the favourites. Patahi and Tide were tho early leaders, but nearing the turn Baron Bold assumed command, to lead into the straight from Gold Ballad, Esperance Bay, Saccone and Hunting Chorus. Saccone was in front before reaching tho last fence, and he came on to win decisively from Baron Bold, who fought 011 gamely. Hunting Chorus plodded on to be a moderate third and Esperance Bay was fourth. Mataroa and Midland were never prominont. Top-weight Wins Novice The top-weight, Black Majesty, was responsible for a good performance in winning the Novice Handicap for which Ksikanui, Air Port and Norse were the favourites. Black Majesty led on to the course proper from Last Acre, City Sous;, AberdoVey, Kukanui and Augment, and he won well from Last Acre. Augment was a close third and Air Port was fourth. Rnkanui ran about a lot in the bad ground, and should do better when the going is not so heavy. Air Port was handy to tho leaders at the false rail, but could make no impression. Six started in the July Steeplechase, and victory went to tho outsider. Blue Tiger, who gave a good display. Love Lilt, Gay Boa and Hirangi were the leaders for the first mile and a-half, and when the field crossed the double, just before commenting the last round, the field was closely bunched. Blue Tiger then went to the lead, but Chat was in front at the half-mile. Nearing the turn Blue Tiger and Gay Boa ran past Chat, and, jumping cleanly, Blue Tiger went on to win comfortably, although he was very tired. Gay Boa outstayed Chat, and beat her fairly comfortably for second. Love Lilt was going well when she toppled over, and might have been in the picture. The little-fancied Hasten brought off a surprise in winning the Crofton Handicap, paying 'well over a Quarter of a century. Lucullus Boy, Hasten and Harina wero quickly prominent, leading 011 to the course proper from Conversion, Flying Flap: and Boloyna.'Hiasten was in front at the distance, and he stalled off a determined challenge from Boloyna to win by half a head. Harina battled on to be a moderate third and Flying Flag was fourth. Expellant was closer at tho finish than at any other stage.

Splendid Performance The Ancklander, Jewelled Girdle, registered a splendid performance iri winning the Winter Hurdles, scoring very decisively at the finish after being one of the leaders throughout. Araboa and Jewelled Girdle went to the front to make the pace, but Araboa made a bad jump at the fence near the mile post, leaving Jewelled Girdle in the lead from Soho, Curie, Student Prince, Kaiwaka and Aussie Ea. Jewelled Girdle came into the straight clear of Aussie Ea, and he went 011 to win well. Clarion Call stayed best of the others to be a good third, and Curie was fourth. The imported gelding Royal .Star 11. ran right up to his form of the first day, when he won the Whyte Handicap, by scoring another end-to-end victory in the Winter Oats Handicap, for which he was only fourth in demand, the favourites being Lady Tinkle and Ned Cuttle. Royal Star 11. jumped out smartly from Xo. 1. followed by Fhileinup, Liane, Prival and Dark Eagle, but nearing the halfmile Liane received a check and went back, interfering with Hunting Royal. Eoyal Star 11. led into the straight just clear of Lady Tinkle, and ran on strongly to beat her handsomely. Wagner, at a good price, was a creditable third, and Kena was several lengths back fourth. ... . . , . Eeproducing the good form she displayed in finishing second to Blonde Princess on the first day, the each-wav favourite Screen Star, who was bracketed with Endorsement scored easily in the Onslow Handicap. Skyrena, Vascones, Screen Star and Aero King re prominent in the early running, Screen Star leading 011 to the course proper. Majority, after passing the false rail, challenged on the inside, but had no chance of. reaching Screen Star, who Won by five lengths. Vascones ran on fairly well for third, and Parer Note came from a long wa> back for fourth, ahead of Aero King. Orate was left at the post and took no part in the race. Pink Lad Badly Lelt

The consistent Sheeny finished strongly to win the Kia Ora Handicap, for which P nk Lad and Stella Lux were he Pink Lad was very badly left, anil Fox was smartest to begin from St, brace and Colincanips. N earing tho turn. A_ moved up smartly, and -ic led into the . tri aight from Noble Fox. Authoress, StellaLuxand Sheeny Onco in line for the post Sheeny challenged strongly, and . .soon overhaul Arabic, to beat him decisively. Stela Lns finished creditably for third, and Don Qucx, running on, was fourth ahead of who did very well after being so ''aflb teft. and would have teen very d '^ u J\ h l ° bea ho had jumped away, with the others.
