WINTER YACHTING

AKARANA CLUB'S EVENTS Fast times were made by the sailing dingh.vs taking part in the fifth series of the Royal Akarana Club's winter racing events o"n Saturday. A steady westerly breeze tested the contestants in tho various points of sailing. Two races were held and Lovebug, owned and sailed by Mr. S. Mason .was successful in both. The first race started at 2.30 p.m. and the elapsed times for the course were: —Lovebug, 20m 275; Kohu. 29m 4as; Ranger, 30m 30s; Spectre, 34m 13s; Oracle, 3Um -17s. Midget carried away a stay and retired. The result on corrected times was: Lovebug, scr, 1; Kohu, 3m. 2: Spectre, 7m, 3. The second race started at 3.30 p.m. ana the elapsed times were:—Lovebug, 30m 225; Ranger, 3Gm 2s; Kohu, 3(Jui 40s; Oracle, 3i)m 335; Spectre, 42m Ss; Wish Wynn, 44m 15s. RICHMOND YACHT CLUB Close racing was witnessed in St. Mary's Bay, when the Richmond Yacht Club staged two races for its sailing dinghy class. The first race started at 2.10 p.m. and the elapsed times for the course were:—Jaibee, 35m 7s; Pal, 35m 255; Pet, 3(im los; Gazelle. 37m 355: Tatola, 38m 295; Rio Rita, 39ni 325; Coquette, 43m 3(is; Pat, 43m IGs. Gazelle did not cross the starting line correctly, while Jaibee and Coquette rounded a mark on the wrong side, the three boats being disqualified. The result on corrected times was:—Pet, 2m 30s, 1; Pal, scr, 2; Tatola, 3m, 3. The second raco was started at 3.45 p.m. and the elapsed times were:—Jaibee, 22m 38s; Pal, 24 m 2s; Fawn, 21m 14s; Pet, 24m 555; Tatola, 26m 425-; Rio Rita, 27m ISs; Coquette, 3<>m ss. Following these races the leaders in the points system were announced as follows: — Handicap: Fawn, 37; Pal, 3U;_ Tatola, 32; Coquette, 20; Pet, 2G. Championship: Pal, 10; Pet, 22; Tatola, 14. •The officials in charge of the races were Messrs. R. L. Thorpe, C. M. Dennes and R. Scott. WAKATERE CLUB Close racing was the order of the contests held by the Wakatere Boating Club at Narrow Neck during the week-end. There were eight starters in the first race, and Foam. Tapui and Taihoa kept together throughout to stage a close finish. The race started at 11 a.m. and the elapsed times for the course were:—Foam, 30m 31s; Tapui, 30m 335; Taihoa. 30m 40s; Koala, 31m 2s; Tamnri, 31 m 395; Echo. 32m Ss; Frostbite. 34m. Ivuaka did not finish. The result, on corrected times was:—Tapui. Im, 1; Foam, 30s, 2; Koala, lin 30s, 3. In the second race the boats were balloted for and all started off scfatch. The three placed boats were:—Tapui, 1; Foam, 2; Tain uri, 3. Owing to the rough conditions, only one boat from the Tamaki Club made the trip to Narrow Neck. The raco commenced at 3.3 p.m. and the elapsed times were Taihoa, 34m 255; Foam. 3 tin s!is; Koala. 35m 3s; Echo. 35m 20s; Tamuri, 35m 255; Tapui. 35m 455; Frostbite. 37m lis. Tane did not finish. The result on corrected times was:—Koala (1m 30s), 1; Echo (lm 30s). 2; Taihoa (scr) and Tamuri dm), deadheat, 3. A junior race was. also held, all boats being on the scratch mark. The placings were:— Foam (A. Carmichael), 1; Taihoa (J. Anderson), 2; Koala (I. Littler), 3.
