MOUNTED RIFLES
Sir, —As a member of the Mounted Rifles for some 14 years, I strongly resent the reference to mounted units as Portuguese armies by the Hon. D. G. McMillan. I think that mounted units would be very useful in case of an invasion. They would be more mobile in the hill country and would not need petrol like mechanised units. At the present moment we mounted rifles N.C.O.'s are considering how we can get away for two months training in August and September, and then a further three months from January onwards. With remarks such as these doming from a Minister wo are not encouraged to worry about it, when some of us have to decide we cannot leave our, farms for such a long period at this time of the year. S.S.M.
