THE AUCKLAND CENTRE "NO RACE" DECLARATION The Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association decided a junior race of 29% miles on Saturday afternoon. The senior event of •14 miles* was declared "nc race" by the referee, Mr. P. Linn, who had to take this action as the starter, Mr. L. M. Nicholson, had sent the riders off itt intervals of one-minute instead of at the handicap intervals marked on tho starting sheet. Consequently tho scratch riders left nine minutes after Stonex and Stewart, instead of l(t minutes later. Tho error was not roticed until almost ull tho riders had departed. * . • Tho seniors finished as follows:—C. H. Piiknell (Munukau), lh 58m ss, I; M. C. Johnson (Munukau). lh 54 m Gs, 2: I). N. Pinfold (Pap&loetoe). 11l 50in 7s, 3; T. Tnnfield (Northern), lh 55rn Bs, 4: A. P. Warnock (Macukau), lit sSin 9s, 5; P. M. Willcox (Lynndale), lh 57m lus, 0. Johnson's timo was Cm 'Jos faster than tho course record.
It has been decided to run tho event on July 20, and to conduct another open junior race on the same date.
The junior rai.e resulted: —E. K. Vost (scr), ,'Gm 455, 1; D. S. Aulick (scr). 7<3m 40s, 2; A. L. Hawko (2m 80s), 70rn 17s. 3; T. Mitchell (3m 30s). SOm 18s, 4s 11. Tanfield (8m), Sim 49,5, 5.
PROFESSIONAL MEETINGS Metropolitan.—Tho club held two races, the juniors riding; five miles and the seniors 30 .miles. The best junior limo was 14m 31s by D. Viskovich. In the senior race, T. Sheehan •won comfortably, also registering fastest time of 3h lum. Pesiilts were; —Senior: T. Sheehan, 2m, 1; J. Bicknell, 2m, 2; P. Sheehan, scr, 3. Junior: P. Cairns, 30m, 1; L. Freeson. lxn 455, 2: V. Mold, 453, 3. Auckland. —Interesting racing was witnessed at Sylvia Park when tho club's road races were run under tho group system. In the A and C sections tho finishes wero very close. Resulls:—A group: J. "Whitten, 1; K. Knight, 2; S. Litchfield, 3. Time. 11l 4m 4(>s. B group: K. 'Kdkins, 1; S. Weller. 2. Time, lh <>m ss. C grcup: If. Absoliim. 1; T. Skiffington, 2; K. Mathieson, 3. Time, lh 8m 545. In tho junior event of 11 miles, only two finished. In winning, tho one-legged rider, I!. Manson (4ni 15s), gained fastest time of 38m 225. B. Blair was runner-up from the three-minute mark in 38m 2S)s.
